Alhambra, Granada Spain Tour
Listen to an Audio Sample of This Tour
Tour Description: This audio tour will guide you through the ornately decorated Moorish palaces and fortress where water represents life and life is remembered through legends. There is simply no better place then the Alhambra to step back in time and appreciate the art and architecture of the Islamic people who ruled Spain for hundreds of years.
Moorish poets described the Alhambra as "a pearl set in emeralds", an allusion to the color of its buildings and the woods around them. The palace complex was designed with the mountainous site in mind. The park (Alameda de la Alhambra), which is overgrown with wildflowers and grass in the spring, was planted by the Moors with roses, oranges and myrtles. It has a multitude of nightingales and is usually filled with the sound of running water from several fountains and cascades. In spite of its age, the Alhambra has endured and remains an atypical example of Muslim art in its final European stages. Column arcades, fountains with running water, and reflecting pools were used to make add to the aesthetic and functional complexity
Stroll at a Sultan’s pace while letting the Spanish breeze skim over the aqueducts cooling the air around you and listen as we provide history and insight that you’ll find no where else. This Unesco World Heritage site Includes the marvelously decorated emirs' palace, Palacio Generalife (the Alhambra's gardens) and dozens of courtyards. The nooks and crannies are filled with beautiful decorations and fascinating stories from the days of Alhambra's glory.
